When I found out one of my former Master students taught in an inappropriate way, I immediately decided to write my first blog article, “Fast Food Reiki.” In all my classes, I passionately express how important I believe it is to follow teaching traditions that were handed down to us. In this article, I will further discuss the way a potential Reiki student may be misled on the beginning of their Reiki journey. [Read more…] about Reiki Student “Beware”
In my previous blog post, I wrote about the History of Reiki covering only it’s beginning roots with Dr.Usui. In this post, I want to continue the History of Reiki and how it came to the west.
Before his death in 1926, Dr. Usui taught more than 2000 students and initiated twenty Reiki Masters. One of the twenty was Dr. Chujiro Hayashi. Dr. Hayashi was Naval Officer as well as a medical doctor. He is important in the history of Reiki because he trained Mrs. Hawayao Takata who brought Reiki to the west. Mrs. Takata lived in Hawaii and came to Japan in the late 1930’s seeking treatment for a medical condition. She met Dr. Hayashi and spent six months in his Reiki clinic getting healed and learning the first levels of Reiki.
Why talk about Usui Reiki’s History?
When I first began to teach Reiki almost twenty years ago, I felt I needed to gain more knowledge about Reiki’s history. I felt that I must give my students the best information I could find. Many books at that time did not document what I thought to be an accurate account of Reiki’s history. After searching and reading as much as I could gather, I got better information about Dr. Usui and Usui Reiki’s history. In this article, I want to share this information with you.
Recently, I began thinking about more about my Reiki Lineage and why it’s important to know. For many years, I’ve explained this to my Level I students. Briefly, with a hand out I’ve traced our roots all the way back to Dr. Mikao Usui. However, I’ve never written or explained in depth what a Reiki Lineage is and why it is important.
In this article, I’m going to talk about being a Reiki Master and give current and future healers some important things to consider.
What does Reiki Master Mean?
Reiki Master is a term used for someone who has completed the highest level of Reiki training and is prepared to teach others. This healing art has been orally taught by Master to student for almost one hundred years dating back to Dr. Mikao Usui. For more information on Dr. Usui please see my previous post: http://reikinewyork.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=700&action=edit .
